Plot Summary

Action/Sci-fi/Tournament

It's always been Leigh's dream to enter the annual TKO Tournament, where contenders from all over the lower levels pit their mechanical creations against one another for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to, literally, move up in the world. This year is finally the year: Leigh has come of age to enter the tournament, and her proudest creation is nothing to shake a stick at. However, a week before the tournament, Leigh crashes into the reigning champion of the last three years: Danver Yeja. Danver is the top contender of the lower levels, and despite having won three years in a row, Danver would rather be at the top of the lower level than be at the bottom of the upper levels. Danver aggressively challenges Leigh to an on-the-spot scrap, and she is pressured to test out her rig. After Leigh's utter defeat Danver promises that after he wins this year's tournament he's going to find Leigh and collect his dues. However, post-battle Leigh realizes two things. One: her control and handling skills are nowhere near the reaction speed of those with experience. And Two: Her technical level is exceptional. Taking what was left of her creation back to the drawing board, Leigh has less than a week and more on the line than ever to compete. During the building process, Leigh integrates a crucial and potentially highly unstable component: A strand of her own DNA. Without time to test this new technology, the TKO Tournament is upon us. Leigh hauls her creation, to the stadium where she sees her childhood friend Taw with her mech Ricket.

Overall tone: Think Battle Angel Alita meets GUNPLA series.

Setting

Places/Tone Major & Minor

Major Location

The Lower Level is what's left of the Earth's crust after its resources have been exhausted and the upper class migrated to it's outer shell, the Upper Level. Because of its encasing, the Lower Level receives minimal sunlight and harbors little wildlife nor greenery. Buildings are composed of shabby concrete, rusted metal and decommissioned tubes; a fine layer of black oil layers everything exposed to the outside air. Factories still run, providing goods that are later transported to distributors on the Upper Level. Manufacturing fumes hit the cieling of the Lower Level where the majority is filtered into clean air for the wealthy above through city-sized filters. Those who live in the Lower Level are usually born into it and live short, unhealthy lives. Those from the Upper Level who fall far enough to wind up in the Lower Level don't last long.

There are many gangs that "own" sections of the Lower Level. Various gangs vie for turf via Core raids: infiltrating an area with machines built from scrap aiming to maim or destroy. There is little peace in the Lower Levels, and one must be very street-wise (or lucky) to live very long.

There are traces of archaeic technology in the Lower Levels. TV's, communicators, spotty access to online resources. Think of them like generations on generations of trashed hand-me-down versions of the latest hardware available first on the luxurious Upper Level. Sweet spots that are particularly valuable, and ergo often crawling with gang members, are trash outlets of used, old, or broken items expelled from the layer above.

Characters

Leigh Stats
Pragmatic engineer who despite her realistic views wishes for a better life, but not just for her. Always thinking about her next move. Doesn't stay still for long. A bit headstrong. Her drive and passion makes up for her seemingly leisurely teammate and sponsor. Maybe a little fidgety, can be hasty or let her curiosity get the better of her.
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Height: Shorty
  • Skin: Dark Brown
  • Hair: Black on top; white underneath
Taw Stats
Taw is a bit wild. She's a dirty, layabout, free-spirited girl. She doesn't particularly fight for a better life, she fights because it's something to do. It's almost like she has no hope. Almost. Childhood friend of Leigh.
"There's something unnatural about it... Or, maybe too natural."
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Female
  • Height: Medium
  • Skin: Fair
